2005 Winners
Glenns Ferry VFW Post 3656 and it's Ladies Auxiliary held its regular monthly potluck on Thursday, Jan 19, 2006

Special guests for the evening included the 2005 Glenns Ferry winners of the "Voice of Democracy","Patriots Pen", and "Patriotic Teacher of the Year" competitions.

The Voice of Democracy (VOD) and the Patriots Pen (PP) essay competitions are held annually throughout the United States and its territories, challanging students in grades 9-12 (VOD) and 6-8 (PP) to address specific themes chosen for the year.

Patriotic Teacher of the Year also is a nationwide competition. Principals of each school nominate one teacher for the award.

This year's Teachers of the Year were Mary Ellen Hervey (elementary school) Terry Parrish (middle school) and Julie Field (high school).

Ben Schwarting, who placed 13th in the nation in 2004 for his Patriot's Pen composition, placed third in the 2005 Voice of Democracy competition.

First Place winner in the Voice of Democracy competition was Annette Aug.

Thomas Copenhaver placed second, and Ellee Bryant won third.

The Patriot's Pen competition was won by Justin Wolfe, with Courtney Wills receiving 2nd place and Scharting earning a respectful third palce.
